For me that horse is Blue Duck! Before you ever see him take a step, Blue Duck will catch your eye. He is a 2021 model, registered Spotted Draft Horse (Brabant X Spotted Draft) standing 16.1 hands with that incredible blue roan paint color, big draft build, and all feathering, flowing mane and presence in the world, he is absolutely breathtaking. But as impressive as he is to look at, his training, personality, and proven dependability are what truly set him apart. Blue Duck is exceptionally trained and truly one-hand broke. He reins around soft and easy and will willingly go anywhere you point him. He spins both directions, slide stops, moves off leg pressure in any direction, side passes to open and shut gates, and has an excellent reverse. For a horse his size, his movement is unbelievable. His trot is smooth, but his lope is absolutely to die for. He lopes as soft, collected, and easy as a horse half his size. He picks up the correct leads and will lope beautiful circles in either direction on a draped rein. There is no pulling or fighting with him—just sit down, pick up your rein, and enjoy riding a big horse that handles like a little cow horse. His personality may be my favorite thing about him. Blue Duck is the first horse waiting for you at the gate. He absolutely craves attention, loves treats, and has one of the funniest personalities you will ever find. He is the definition of an in-your-pocket horse and genuinely enjoys being around people. He has been ridden by riders of all ages, including children as young as 8 years old. We have also used him multiple times for lessons with a 63-year-old beginner rider who was just learning to ride. He has the ability and training to satisfy an experienced horseman, yet the mind and disposition to take care of someone who simply wants to relax and enjoy the ride. Simply put, Blue Duck is my best friend. He has been my personal horse for the past year, and I have 100% confidence in him. I consider him one of the safest, most dependable horses I have ever owned because I haven't just assumed he is safe—I have personally tested and proven him in situations most horses could not handle and will never experien. We have taken Blue Duck out of state on several trail-riding trips, and he is about as carefree and enjoyable on the trail as you could ever ask one to be. Wildlife doesn't bother him. He crosses creeks, logs, ditches, rough terrain, and whatever else you put in front of him. He will lead the group, ride quietly in the middle or back, and will leave the other horses without throwing a fit. But the environment where Blue Duck has truly proven what kind of horse he is has been on the rodeo circuit. Going on a year now, I have used Blue Duck extensively as a pickup horse for saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, and ranch bronc riding. I've also roped and dragged bulls out of the arena on him, sorted and penned livestock before the shows, and carried the American flag during the grand entry. Think about the environment of a rodeo—thousands of things happening at once. Screaming and cheering crowds, blaring music over the speakers, buzzers, flags, livestock, bucking horses, bulls, ropes, kids climbing up on the rails to pet him, and a rodeo clown doing everything imaginable to entertain the crowd, even at times throwing props at Blue Duck and I... anything to make the crowd laugh! Blue Duck takes it all in stride. When a bronc rider needs picked up, Blue Duck will run right alongside a bucking horse and allow the cowboy to bail off onto him double. He will then calmly and safely let me lower that cowboy to the ground. When an unruly bull needs removed from the arena, Blue Duck will confidently ride straight to him, let me throw my loop, dally off, and drag him out. And rodeo livestock doesn't always cooperate. Blue Duck has had bulls turn around and physically push against him, yet he remains calm, confident, and focused on his job. That kind of mind and dependability cannot be manufactured. Away from the rodeo arena, I have also used Blue Duck to pony colts and help us through their first few rides. When you're sitting on a horse while trying to keep an inexperienced colt under control, you need to know exactly what is underneath you. Blue Duck has repeatedly been the horse I trust for that job. And he isn't limited to Western riding. Blue Duck has also been ridden English and has been over the jumps—and he genuinely enjoys it. His athleticism and willingness make him the type of horse that could go in nearly any direction. Blue Duck combines things that are extremely difficult to find in one horse: size, color, registration, athletic ability, advanced training, an incredible lope, a lovable personality, and a proven mind... You can find another blue roan. You can find another big draft cross. You can find another broke horse. Finding all of it in one horse that has been tested in the real world like Blue Duck has—that's the hard part. He isn't a horse that has spent his life being hidden from difficult situations so someone can call him safe. He has been put directly into those situations, in the line of fire and proven himself time after time. From carrying an 8-year-old kid, to taking care of a older beginning rider, to quietly traveling down a trail, to carrying Old Glory in front of a packed rodeo crowd, to running alongside a bucking bronc or dragging an unruly bull out of the arena—Blue Duck has earned my confidence and without a doubt after one ride he will earn yours as well! This is my personal horse, my partner, and my best friend—and I believe whoever is fortunate enough to own Blue Duck next will understand exactly why. Located in Berea, KY. I invite anyone to come see him in person, shipping is available to any state. If you have any questions or would like to facetime and see him in real time call Jake McMullen 937-481-8026
