✨ Meet Rufus! ✨
This gentle giant is a 4-year-old, 17.2hh Percheron cross gelding (mostly Percheron). If you’re looking for big, safe, and extra quiet—here’s your guy! He’s as sweet as he is tall. Nothing fazes him—you can do anything on or around him, and he won’t budge. He’d make an ideal candidate for a therapy horse, a husband horse for the trail, or a quiet partner to mosey around the ring. Most of his miles are outside, and he’s an absolute tank on the trail! He’s still an oversized baby with more to learn, but we couldn’t ask for a better brain or temperament than his.

On the Trail
Rufus has the majority of his experience out on the trail—and he’s seen a lot! He’s happy anywhere in the group and will lead with unwavering confidence just about anywhere. He’s gone through creeks, up and down mountain trails, and across open fields. Deer can jump out in front of him and he won’t blink an eye.
We’ve done lots of desensitization work with him—he’s been exposed to tarps, flags, smoke, mini bikes, four-wheelers, and all kinds of heavy equipment. He’s even led the group down the highway with semi-trucks flying by, completely unfazed. Rufus was born non-reactive and truly doesn’t seem to have a spook in him.
He enjoys being out, always going in that same steady-Eddy way with happy ears forward the whole time. His favorite speed is slow, but he will pick up a trot and canter when asked. He’d make a wonderful horse for guests or less experienced riders who just want to have a safe, relaxing ride. He’s the same easy-going horse every time you get him out, and at his age, he couldn’t be doing a better job!

In the Ring
Rufus has been learning the ropes in the arena, and he keeps the same calm nature both in and out of the ring. He’s even toted around the kids—he’s definitely one that will teach them how to use their leg! Kids can ride him solo, follow another horse, or enjoy a leadline ride. You can crawl all over him or take forever to get on—and he doesn’t mind a bit.
We’ve kept things very basic and easy with him. He’s been building muscle and balance and is still figuring out what to do with those long legs! He’s been doing lots of simple exercises—like walking over poles and learning to move off the leg—and he’s doing great.
The most jumping he’s done is what you see in the video, and he’s been honest and safe. He’s even cruised over a few logs cross-country and was a champ! He seemed to genuinely enjoy it. Rufus probably won’t be your next Grand Prix horse, but with time and training, we have no doubt he’ll be a star in his own way. 🤩

In the Barn
Rufus is a complete lovebug. He’ll stand to be groomed and bathed, and even the kids can handle him! He stands quietly to be saddled and takes the bit easily when bridled.
He is a big boy and not always fully aware of his size, so he does need occasional reminders about personal space—but he’s never rude or pushy. He loves his treats and cookies and takes them politely.
He trailers great and loads up with zero hesitation or issues. He’s not overly attached to other horses and is used to going out solo. He gets along well with both geldings and mares in the pasture. Rufus is a wonderful, sweet-natured young gelding who was truly born quiet as can be.
